【Abstract】 Objective To compare the blood selenium, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and thyroid hormone
levels in patients with Graves disease and Hashimoto's disease (HD). Methods Thirty patients with Graves disease in
our hospital from Sep. 2014 to Sep. 2015 were choose as the Graves group, and thirty patients of HD were selected as the
HD group. A the same time, 30 healthy people were enrolled as the control group. The blood selenium, GSH Px, thyroid
stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (FT4), free three iodine thyroid original ammonia acid (FT3), thyroid peroxidase
antibody (TPOAb), thyroglobulin antibody (TG-Ab), thyroid TSH receptor antibody (TRAb) levels were measured and
analyzed. Results The levels of selenium, GSH-Px in Graves group and HD group were (102.37±3.59) μg/L, (108.25±
4.25) μg/L, (212.75 ± 53.26) μg/L, (214.24 ± 53.16) μg/L, which were significantly lower than those in control group
[(126.96±5.68) μg/L, (390.45±84.63) U/L, P<0.05]. The levels of TRAb, TPO-Ab, TG-Ab in Graves group and HD group
were (54.24±11.32) IU/mL, (49.82±9.32) IU/L, (53.44±12.34)% and (51.62±12.91) IU/mL, (42.24±8.43) IU/L,
(50.57 ± 10.23)% , which were significantly higher than those in control group [(9.25 ± 3.16) IU/mL, (3.24 ± 1.01) IU/L,
(15.45±2.33)%, P<0.05]. There was no significant difference between the indexes of Graves group and HD group (P>
0.05). Blood selenium was negatively correlated with TPO-Ab, TRAb, and TG-Ab (P<0.05). GSH-Px was negatively
correlated with TPO-Ab, TRAb and TG-Ab (P<0.05). Conclusion The selenium level of Graves disease and HD pa-
tients were significantly lower than healthy people, which may influence the synthesis of thyroid hormone. Therefore, se-
lenium may be beneficial for patients to improve the disease condition.
