【Abstract】 Objective To explore the significance of computed tomography angiography (CTA) examina-
tion in studying classification of the internal iliac artery as well as the uterine artery origin and angle of females.
Methods The original CTA datasets of 108 patients with all sorts of pelvic lesions were collected in the Panyu Cen-
tral Hospital from July 2011 to December 2012. The datasets were input into StartVitrea2 workstation for reconstruct-
ing. The internal iliac arteries were classified according to Adachi et al and analyzed comparatively. The origin and an-
gle of the uterine artery were studied. Results All of the internal iliac arteries (n=216) were classificated. TypeⅠ ac-
counted for 61.1% (132/216), typeⅡ accounted for 9.7% (21/216), with typeⅢ for 24.1% (52/216), typeⅣ for 4.6%
(10/216), type V for 0.5% (1/216). In addition, most of the uterine arteries were originated from the trunk of inferior
gluteal and main pudenda artery (40.1%), and less from the internal iliac artery (19.3%) and internal pudendal artery
(18.4%). The angle of uterine artery less than 30° accounted for 62.2%, and the opening angle of best display more
common was 15°~30°. Conclusion Preoperative CTA examination can clearly display the classification of the inter-
nal iliac artery and origin and angle of the uterine artery, which has important guiding significance to interventional
therapy and pelvic surgery.
