【Abstract】 Objective To observe the effect of Shengxuening in the treatment of Cytopenia in patients with
hepatitis C caused by interferon plus ribavirin therapy. Methods 8 patients of hepatitis C undergoing cytopenia
caused by PEG-IFNα2a plus ribavirin therapy were selected and treated by oral intake of Shengxuening for 12 weeks.
The changes in the hemoglobin (Hb), red blood cells (RBC), hematocrit (Hct), white blood cells (WBC), platelet
(PLT) levels and the improvements in the subjective symptoms of patients were investigated. Results Of the 28 cas-
es, the treatment was significantly effective in 19 cases (67.85%), effective in 8 cases (28.57%), and invalid in 1 case
(3.57%). The total effective rate was 96.43%. The levels of Hb, RBC, Hct, WBC, PLT increased significantly after
treatment compared with that before treatment (P<0.01). Conclusion Shengxuening is effective for treating cytope-
nia caused by PEG-IFNα2a plus ribavirin therapy in patients with hepatitis C, enhancing the formation of erythrocyte,
leukocytes and platelets.
