Effect of hepatitis C virus infection on the expression of C-reactive protein.

【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the effect of hepatitis C virus (HCV) on the expression of C-reactive pro-
tein (CRP) in vitro and in vivo. Methods A total of 106 samples of HCV infected patients and 110 samples of healthy in-
dividuals in Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University from January 2015 to February 2016 were collected. Serum CRP
levels were measured by immune transmission turbidity method. The expression of CRP mRNA in Huh7.5.1 cells infect-
ed with HCV and control cells was measured by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results Se-
rum CRP levels were (8.62±5.56) mg/L in patients with HCV infection, which were significantly higher than those in
healthy individuals (1.35 ± 0.71) mg/L, with statistically significant difference (P<0.01). The expression level of CRP
mRNA in Huh7.5.1 cells infected with HCV was significantly higher compared with that in control cells, and the gray ra-
tio of CRP/ beta-actin was 0.31 and 1.5 respectively. Conclusion HCV infection can upregulate the expression of CRP
in liver cells.
